Who is that Red Man

For my wonderful friends in far off places, and those clueless friends here in Texas, who do not know the large red man behind us in our header picture.
He is Will Rogers. He was a trick roper and humorist in the 1920's and 30's. He spoke at Tech. He also donated $200 so the band could travel to TCU and play at the game.
He died in a plane crash in 1935.
The statue was to face West, riding into the sunset. However that would have had Soapsuds rear facing the town. Not so desirable by the townspeople. So the sculpture was moved and now Soapsuds rear points toward Texas A&M in East Texas.
Tech campus is 'wrapped in red' before a home game. There are streamers added to signs etc... And the Saddle Tramps...... Here are a few current Tramps and a few possible future Tramps! .
Wrap the sculpture with red crepe paper. I think there is more around this with graduation etc.... but, I don't know the details. Carylon - do you know more?
Go here for the whole story.
